The man who would become THE JOKER graduating to pulling heists on his own.  It was while robbing the Ace Chemical Plant that he first met BATMAN, and where he fell into a vat of toxic waste, bleaching his skin and pulling his face into a clownish grin.  His evil mind broken, he renamed himself THE JOKER, and his behavior became more playful, less predictable and far more deadly.  

Crime became a game, and BATMAN became his favorite opponent.
